Want to fall into a financial trap? Want to be able to travel only a certain number of off-peak times throughout the year? Want to watch the contents of your wallet disappear as you pay hundreds of dollars in hidden fees and costs?
Then a timeshare is the perfect purchase for you, my friend.
Once upon a time, timeshares were one of the hottest purchases that a travel-loving family could make. Thanks to the sales pitches of pushy timeshare agents,

uneducated buyers were lulled into believing that not only would a timeshare grant them access to some of the hottest resorts in the world for much cheaper; it was also a great investment scheme with unlimited growth potential. However, as time has passed and timeshares have flooded the market, more consumers than ever are realizing that their timeshares are simply toxic purchases with no resell value. Thanks to the number of timeshares that are available today, it’s undoubtedly a buyer’s market, with no hope for making significant returns on the initial purchase.
What about when it comes to traveling?
Timeshares fall short in that respect as well. With an average cost of $12,000 to purchase and annual dues ranging from $300 – $1,000, you’d think that you’d have your pick of destinations, no matter what time you want to take your holiday. That’s where you’re wrong: timeshares are riddled with blackout dates, many of which fall right in the middle of the most popular tourist seasons. If you were dreaming of taking that scuba-diving vacation to Australia for the summer, you might be disappointed to find that you have to endure Australia’s cold and rainy winter due to your timeshare’s blackout dates – now that doesn’t sound like your dream vacation at all!
Additionally, timeshares make it almost impossible to exchange your time to another destination. If you want to turn your three weeks in the Caribbean into a London adventure, then if you can manage to exchange your time, you’re going to have to pay a hefty exchange fee, which could leave you up to $300 poorer. Given that you

Blackout dates, extreme depreciation and hidden fees and costs that make online bookings look downright cheap – it’s easy to see that when it comes to timeshares, it’s just not worth the hassle or the money.
So if you want to travel on the cheap without sacrificing luxury or the quality of your vacation, what alternatives are out there?

Hi there,
Thanks for article. Everytime like to read you.
Have a nice day
This kind of article are what the potential timeshare owners need today. In this way, they will be aware of the disadvantages of timeshare ownership. Also, this provides tips in avoiding timeshare conflicts.
It’s a great deal in finding out the perfect resort to enjoy the luxurious getaway.
In Sint Maarten there are no regulations pertaining to Timeshare resorts sales or operations. Our resort,
Atrium Beach Resort, was sold to a large timeshare operator, they in turn tried to violate our lease by
raising our AMF above our contractual agreed annual increase and also instituted a very large Special
Assessment. Both violations of our lease were contested in court, we will have a final verdict sometime
in late 2009.
In the meantime we have organized a Timeshare Consumer Protection association in Sint Maarten, this is
the Sint Maarten Timeshare Owners Association or SXMTSOA, our website is full of information on
how we intend to clean up the timeshare industry in Sint Maarten, promote a "Code of Ethics" and promote
Timeshare Consumer Legislation for SXM.
It appears so many resorts everywhere violate the agreements that the leaseholders or owners depend on
to maintain their respective resorts. Most of the owners can not keep up with the payments each and every year, especially this past year many of the owners have resorted to either just giving up, renting or selling their units. So we have put together a FREE website to sell or rent timeshares or vacation properties.
These two options, the Association and the Website are to enable the Sint Maarten timeshare owner or any timeshare owner to get ahead of the management companies. Every timeshare owner must understand that they need to organize to protect their rights, ours is in Sint Maarten, yours may be in the United States, just keep a list of owners in your resort, get emails, organize a blog or website, this will enable you to communicate and resolve the many issues that arise each year.
Timeshare sales and rentals are a very big business, there are so many ways to sell or rent your timeshare,
many of the companies charge exorbarant fees. Do not pay a large fee to sell or rent your unit, there are so
many FREE sites that will help you out, do a search or go to this site for help. Best Timeshare Rentals by Owner.
